Tip of the Week: Widen your swing arc

In our Offseason series on Wednesday, Swingpal.com instructor Jim Williams showed you how to check the flexibility of your lat muscles, as well as three exercises you can do to improve flexibility in that area.

As was mentioned in that video segment, flexible lats enable a golfer to generate width in their backswing, which is a key element in avoiding several common swing flaws, most notably a narrow swing arc, a takeaway that’s too flat or laid off, or a complete collapse at the top of the backswing.

Of course, the possibility remains that you have one of the aforementioned issues in your golf swing, but it’s not related to flexibility.

Well, we’ve got you covered on that front, too, as Jim is back with a great drill that you can do to widen your swing arc, a move that will generate more speed, power and distance in your golf game.

Try this drill the next time you practice and you’re sure to see an increase in distance, especially off the tee.
