Notable Students
Tim enjoyed success on the golf course as a junior and went on to compete at the University of Virginia where he was a team captain during his final season. He realized that golf was always going to be an integral part of his life, and it was at this time that he decided to lay the foundation for a future career in golf instruction. Unlike typical golf instructors, Tim began his career in the academic realm, completing a Master’s degree in Pedagogy from Virginia in 1999. This study, tailored to the teaching of golf, broadened his knowledge of not only the golf swing but also the fields of exercise physiology, motor learning and sport psychology.
Tim is currently the Director of Instruction at Long Cove Club on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Prior to arriving at Long Cove Club, he worked at the prestigious Wade Hampton Golf Club in Cashiers, North Carolina, where he was able to transform the instructional program in an exclusive golf setting. Tim’s teaching was so well received at Wade Hampton, where he served as the Head Professional/Instructor, that he taught 20 times the number of lessons as the previous professional staff.
Tim is also a co-founder of GOLFPREP which assists junior golfers in their efforts to achieve goals through programs that enhance physical, mental, emotional and nutritional awareness. Visit www.mygolfprep.com for more information.
Tim believes each student presents him an opportunity to help someone improve and gain more enjoyment from golf. In order to accomplish this goal, Tim teaches from a holistic viewpoint to focus on improving the technique, physical attributes and mind of the student. He builds technique from the ground up by focusing on posture, grip and alignment to see if one of these elements is a root cause of a mechanical breakdown. Tim then assesses the physical attributes of a student to make sure that it is possible for he or she to do Tim is asking. Finally, Tim creates a plan with the student on how to attack a golf course because a clear mind is important to playing great golf.
“Tim Cooke has been my swing instructor for the past five years since he first started here at Long Cove Club. Over those years, we have developed a stronger relationship than just during lesson time because Tim is committed even outside of the paid lesson time to make his students better. Every time we have a lesson he explains things in exciting ways, using some of the latest golf technologies to enhance the lesson. Tim is willing to explain something in multiple ways so that you understand what you are working on. He is not committed to using just one swing or one method. He is continually searching the Internet to see my tournament results and those of my fellow juniors that he also teaches, periodically sending us texts about our rounds. I believe that Tim genuinely enjoys teaching junior golfers because he is always enthusiastic and willing to help.”
“Tim has played a very influential role in the development of my golf game. Through his teaching, I have become a scratch golfer and am on the right track to earn a college golf scholarship. He is very dedicated to my game and works very hard to help me improve. He has given me a much greater understanding of my swing and I have the confidence to reach my goals.”

Lower-body stability is crucial in the golf swing but especially through impact. If you’re sliding on the downswing, however, stability will be tough to achieve and you’re going to struggle to generate the kind of power that you’d like. In ...
